Teams and Clubs

We greatly appreciate the support of teachers who volunteer their time to lead and/or support extracurricular activities at Westwind. As soon as teachers decide which activities they would like to offer, these will be shared with students during morning announcements, then posted on the website.


Primary Blockball: 
Students in grades 1-3 are invited to play blockball in the gym at afternoon recesses. Students listen to the announcements to hear when their class is playing. Thank you to Mme Tracey for convening this league and to all those staff who are contributing to its supervision.  

Bordenball: 
The next intramural season for Junior students is expected to be Bordenball. Students have met to indicate their interest and should listen for announcements about upcoming games and tryouts. Thank you to Coaches Caron and Cesario for their work with the students.  

Cross Country: 

Congratulations to our Cross Country team on their excellent season of training and their participation in the Region 6 meet on Tuesday, October 23rd. There were numerous top 20 and top 10 finishes and many personal bests were achieved. Thank you to coaches Tayler and Kelly, and to the parent volunteers who supported the team.  

Drama Club: 

The Drama Club, for Junior students, has begun to meet. Their initial focus will be on a project related to our Remembrance Day assembly. Thank you to Mrs. Groskleg and Mr. de Silva for leading

ECO Club: 
The Westwind ECO Club has plant ed masses of tulip bulbs in the gar- dens at the front of our school. We look forward to the return of the warm days of spring and the beau- tiful colours to come.  

HackerGals:
Hackergals will be gearing up for the winter Hackathon on Wednesday December 12th. Training sessions will take place beginning in November.

Young Rembrandt's Art Club:
Our first session of the Young Rembrandts drawing program will be taking place Thursdays after school.

Ukelele Kids:
For those Gr 5 & 6 students who registered, your 10 week Ukelele lessons will take place Monday's after school, while the Gr. 3 & 4 students will take place Wednesday's afterschool. Please meet at room 211 for your lessons. 

Recorder Club: 
The Recorder Club for grades 3-6 will have its first session on Tuesday, November 6th and will meet regularly with Mrs. Power on Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon recesses. Students who have expressed interest in the club have received a letter for parents which includes information about purchasing a recorder and instructions for how to hold the recorder, which should be practiced before the first session.  

Catch-up Club: 
On Thursday mornings at recess, Mme Neufeld offers an opportunity for students in grades 4-6 to work in the library, catching up on missed homework or getting started on assignments so that they have less homework. Students must request a ticket from their teacher to attend. 

Sideline Soccer: 
Thank you to Mrs. Penney and Mme Tracey for organizing this league and to all of the teachers volunteering to supervise.
