Teams and Clubs

We greatly appreciate the support of teachers who volunteer their time to lead and/or support extracurricular activities at Westwind. As soon as teachers decide which activities they would like to offer, these will be shared with students during morning announcements, then posted on the website.

Triple Ball:
Our next Junior sport in the gym has already started: Triple Ball. This game is a great precursor to volleyball. A team sets up on each side of the volleyball net and play starts with the ball being tossed instead of served by the opposition. Please listen for announcements. The tournament date for girls is Feb. 27 and the boys are March 5. Thanks to Coaches Tracey and Alward for their work with our Junior students.

Pokemon Club:
In November, Mme Ruhland introduced a new club for students in grades 5 & 6. The Pokemon Club meets weekly on Wednesdays in the library, and Grade 4 students have recently been invited to join.

Drama Club:

The Drama Club, for Junior students, has begun to meet. Their initial focus will be on a project related to our Remembrance Day assembly. Thank you to Mrs. Groskleg and Mr. de Silva for leading

ECO Club:
The Westwind ECO Club has planted masses of tulip bulbs in the gardens at the front of our school. We look forward to the return of the warm days of spring and the beautiful colours to come. Our ECO club members have a great project in mind: bird feeders made from recycled materials. Club members are meeting at recesses to create their feeders and we look forward to seeing them placed around our property. Thank you to Ms. Hinton, Mrs. Penney and Mrs. Gamble for their leadership.

Young Rembrandt's Art Club:
Our first session of the Young Rembrandts drawing program will be taking place Thursdays after school.

Ukelele Kids:
For those Gr 5 & 6 students who registered, your 10-week Ukelele lessons will take place Monday's after school, while the Gr. 3 & 4 students will take place Wednesday's after school. Please meet at room 211 for your lessons.

Recorder Club:
The Recorder Club for grades 3-6 will have its first session on Tuesday, November 6th and will meet regularly with Mrs. Power on Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon recesses. Students who have expressed interest in the club have received a letter for parents which includes information about purchasing a recorder and instructions for how to hold the recorder, which should be practised before the first session.

Catch-up Club:
On Thursday mornings at recess, Mme Neufeld offers an opportunity for students in grades 4-6 to work in the library, catching up on missed homework or getting started on assignments so that they have less homework. Students must request a ticket from their teacher to attend.
