2020/2021 School Year:
Due to COVID protocols related to physical distancing and shared materials, group sports and clubs are not currently running in the in-person school. We look forward to updating our community when these activities can be resumed.

We greatly appreciate the support of teachers who volunteer their time to lead and/or support extracurricular activities at Westwind. As soon as teachers decide which activities they would like to offer, these will be shared with students during morning announcements, then posted on the website.
Intramurals:
Westwind offers a number of intramural sports for students in grades 4-6. These include: cross country running, soccer, borden ball, triple ball, and basketball. In the spring, we hold an in-school track meet as well as practices so that coaches can select members of the school's track and field team. Game days are announced on the announcements each morning and/or posted on the Junior sports bulletin board in the upstairs hallway.
For students in grades 1-3, large group activities held at recesses in the gym are organized by grade or groups of classes. The activities are supervised by teachers and often led by our Junior student volunteers. Game days are announced on the morning announcements.
Interschool Competition:
Student athletes who participate in intramurals, demonstrate a high level of commitment and perseverance in their academic studies, and consistently adhere to the school code of conduct, may be selected to join one of the Westwind teams for interschool competition. This may require attendance at additional team practices. Interschool competition consists of a one-day tournament, at a school site within the OCDSB District. There is no fee for student athletes to attend the tournament; however, we do rely on volunteer parent drivers to transport the student athletes to and from the tournament.
Pokemon Club:
The Pokemon Club has met weekly on Wednesdays in the library, with students from grades 3-6 invited to participate.
Drama Club:
The Drama Club is offered for Junior students. The Drama Club often begins the year with a project related to our Remembrance Day assembly.
ECO Club:
The Westwind ECO Club has initiated a number of eco-friendly projects over the years, such as: planting masses of tulip bulbs in the gardens at the front of our school; making bird feeders from recycled materials; making tote bags from recycled T-shirts; gathering plastic shopping bags for the shopping bag challenge.
Catch-up Club:
On Thursday mornings at recess, students in grades 4-6 have been offered an opportunity to work in the library, catching up on missed homework or getting started on assignments so that they have less homework. Students must request a ticket from their teacher to attend.
Reading Club:
At one recess each week, students have been invited to come to the library for the Reading Club. Students bring their own book or may enjoy being read to by the supervising teacher.
