Kindergarten Information Night:

Westwind’s Kindergarten Information session will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 beginning at 6:30 .p.m. This information session will include information about the OCDSB’s 2-year, bilingual kindergarten program and the Extended Day Program (on-site childcare before and after school). Parents will be able to sign-up for tour times offered on other days. This evening information session is intended for new registrants to kindergarten.

Program Options (Language):

All OCDSB Kindergarten classes are bilingual, with 50% instruction in English and 50% instruction in French. At Westwind, we use a 2-day, alternating day model, in which students attend one whole day in English followed by one whole day in French.

For grade 1, parents select either :
• the English Program with daily Core French: all subjects are taught in English except for the 40- minutes daily of French (grades 1-8), or
• the Early French Immersion Program, which includes • grade1: 80% French instruction and 20% English instruction (Mathematics)
• grades 2-6: 60% French instruction and 40% English instruction (Mathematics and English Language Arts)

Middle French Immersion Application Period:

February 11-19 Eligibility:
The Middle French Immersion program is designed for students entering grade 4, who have been enrolled in the English program with daily Core French up to and including grade 3.

Location: The MFI program is offered at various schools throughout the OCDSB district. In Westwind’s catchment area, students entering MFI program will attend A. Lorne Cassidy E.S. in Stittsville. Parents should complete a registration form at the MFI centre designated for their home address.

Program: In grades 4 to 6 students receive 66 per cent of their instruction in French. Generally, all subjects, with the exception of English Language Arts and Mathematics, are taught in French. In grades 7 and 8, students receive 50 per cent of their program in French. Beginning in grade 9, students in Middle French Immersion (MFI) and Early French Immersion (EFI) take their French courses together and this continues throughout secondary school. At the end of secondary school, all OCDSB students have the opportunity to have their French language skills assessed through participation in the DELF assessment and students in MFI and EFI typically complete the same levels on the DELF certification. For further information about Middle French Immersion, please see our French as a Second Language factsheet on the OCDSB website.
